NEW ‘DynaCut’ WHOLE-BEET CROWNING from HOLMER

22.05.2012

Holmer has introduced a new high performance scalper for Terra Dos T3 harvesters, developed to improve whole beet crowning, and reduce waste and running costs.

These latest scalpers are designated ‘DynaCut’, reflecting their dynamic high output precision topping capabilities, regardless of whether sugar beet is uniform or uneven. Designed to meet the latest needs of the world’s sugar beet processors, such as British Sugar’s ‘Whole Beet’ topping initiative, DynaCut is Holmer’s latest scalper design, it replaces previous whole beet topping systems from the manufacturer.

Using advanced computer design techniques together with rigorous field testing in many countries including the UK, Holmer technicians have reduced the total weight of the scalper assembly without compromising strength and reliability. Reduced mass enables DynaCut scalpers to respond much faster to high and low beet, resulting in greater crowning accuracy and fewer un-topped beet, particularly at higher harvesting speeds.

The new scalpers feature parallel linkages with a new geometry on low-friction bearings; automatic self-compensation reduces the knife-comb gap on low, small beet, to reduce waste by over topping, whereas on high beet the gap is increased to take account of the deeper area of crowning required. Drivers can adjust topping heights and many other functions from their seat. Settings can be checked visually, or from the harvester’s on-board computer screen.

The greater effectiveness and faster response of DynaCut scalpers mean the operator can set the flail topper higher, offering the potential to reduce topper running costs. Holmer sugar beet harvesters can be specified with leaf mulching or spreading toppers, or with a Combi model offering the best of both. Following successful UK demonstrations, several major UK sugar beet contractors have specified DynaCut scalpers for their new 2012 Holmer harvester orders.
